Basin Street Regulars Youth Program

We provide an environment where young people can learn to play Traditional Jazz and improvisation in front of a live audience. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and we offer educational opportunities to both youth and young adults. Our Club has also sponsored youth bands to participate in the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Youth Band Festival (TJYBF) held in February. Some of these youth bands have become full-time musical groups, including the Red Skunk Jipzee Swing band featuring Molly Reeves and Justin Au, The New Low Down featuring BSR alumni Tasha Brittain and Justin Au, and the BSR Hotshots. These bands have all been featured at our own Jazz Jubilee by the Sea.

Every year, our club sends young people to the Sacramento Youth Jazz Camp and/or the Cuesta College Jazz Workshop. Choose your week and your instrument and apply online to the Jazz Camp hld outside Sacramento. Then fill out the scholarship application provided by Basin Street Regulars. Apply early for the wonderful opportunity because popular instrument slots fill up fast.
