BSR Home > What We Do > Jam Sessions
Every month, our club hosts a jam session from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There are three sets. The "Youth Set" is from 11:00 to 11:35. The second set featuring some youth and some more advanced musicians is from 11:40 to 12:10. The third set is from 12:15-12:50. The music and players are pre-coordinated by the jam session organizer. All musicians who wish to participate will play at least one and possibly two of the sets. Pre-coordination is strongly advised but loosely enforced. Jam set musicians get free admittance to the Sunday session and a token for a free drink each month that they play. Membership in the club is strongly encouraged for jam set musicians. Youth who participate in the jam sessions will receive on-stage instruction and opportunities to practice between monthly events. Jazz camp scholarships are also available to these young people. There are two youth jazz camps held every summer, one in Mammoth Lakes and one in the mountains near Sacramento.
We have our own BSR fake books for C, Bb and Eb instruments as well as books for bass clef instruments. These books are provided to all participants at each jam session. Click here to download our current list of songs. We always encourage experienced and novice vocalists alike to try singing one of their favorites. We hope it is in our key! We sporadically practice at a private residence on Monday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Call Rhonda Cardinal at the number below for more information about our practice sessions.
